Your Fibre network device offers a wireless capability to enable you to operate a wireless network to support smart phones, tablets and lap-top computers around your home. In order to ensure the security of your own home wireless network, we strongly advise that you change the default settings on the device before you start using the wireless capability.
In order to do this you will need to plug your computer into one of the network ports around your home using a Cat5 cable with RJ-45 Ethernet connectors on the end. Most computers will be set to receive a network address from our device automatically but if you are struggling with this, please contact us for assistance and we can provide you with instructions appropriate to your operating system.
You will simply need to open your favourite browser and check that you are able to access the Internet. Once you are on-line, type the following into the address bar of your browser and hit the return key:
192.168.1.254
You should be presented with the web interface of the fibre network device in your home and will be asked to input a User Name and Password.
In the user name box type admin
In the password box type admin
and then press the Log In button.
You should then see the System Information page. At the top of the page is a tab labelled Network. Press this tab and the WAN Configuration page should appear.
At the top of this page is a tab labelled Wireless. Select this tab and the Wireless Configuration page will open.
On this page you need to ensure that the Enable Radio button is ticked and that the Country is set to United Kingdom.
The SSID field which defines the network’s name will be showing a default name for your network in the format GNX123456. You should change this value to something more memorable such as “John’s Wireless”, “MyHomeNetwork” or some other designation unique to you.
The default Encryption Key also needs to be changed to something that is easier for you to remember. As with all passwords this should ideally be a random sequence of letters or numbers or something more memorable that you are unlikely to forget.
Once you have made all the changes that you wish to make, remember to press Save WLAN Settings.
You should now be able to see your chosen SSID name on your wireless devices and insert your chosen Encryption Key in order to enjoy wireless surfing throughout your home.
Should you encounter any problems with this process, please do not hesitate to contact our Support desk.
